  A: The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system helps in minimizing emission of hydrocarbons since it possesses the function of blowing fresh air from the air intake duct to the crankcase hence mixing the crankcase blow-by gases with the fresh air before being drawn by intake manifold vacuum through PCV valve to the intake manifold. The main components are the PCV valve and two vacuum hoses, of which the fresh air inlet hose links the air intake duct to the front valve cover, to contain fresh air together with blow-by gases from the crankcase. This valve controls the amount of crank case emissions allowed under functions of intake manifold vacuum to control the quality of the idle.
