Honda CRX Distributor Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How is the distributor removed and installed on Honda CRX?
A: The distributor is driven directly by the Camshaft, which features grooves that engage the distributor shaft, preventing incorrect installation. To remove and install the distributor, first use masking tape to label the spark plug wires as they are disconnected from the cap. Next, disconnect the vacuum hoses, primary wire, and high tension wire, and if applicable, remove the four-prong connector from the crank angle sensor. After removing the hold-down bolts, pull the distributor from the head, noting that CRX models with fuel injection have three bolts. Crank the engine until the No. 1 piston reaches TDC on its compression stroke, then install a new O-ring on the distributor housing. The distributor drive gear remains engaged during removal; align the distributor and turn the shaft until it locks and seats in the Cylinder Head. Loosely install the hold-down bolts, temporarily tighten them, and replace the cap. Finally, reconnect all wires and hoses, start the engine, and adjust the ignition timing.
