Install a new gasket in the hole before installing the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor in the fuel tank, and when installing the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor on a non-SULEV model, make sure that the index mark on top of the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor is pointing between the two marks on the edge of the hole. When installing the mounting flange on a SULEV model or on a V6 model, make sure that the three asymmetrically-located notches in the mounting flange are aligned with their corresponding lugs on top of the pump assembly. Before reconnecting the fuel supply line quick-connect fitting, be sure to replace the 0-ring inside the fitting, and when installing the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor on an SULEV model, be sure to tighten the retaining nuts to the torque. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal.

If you want to replace the fuel filter, wash the fuel inlet strainer thoroughly in clean solvent, dry it off and inspect it for tears, cracks, clogging any other damage. If the strainer is damaged or worn, replace it, be sure to use a new retaining washer when installing the strainer. Before installing the fuel pump access cover, be sure to connect the cable to the negative battery terminal, start the engine and check for fuel leaks at the pump fuel line connection.
