Honda Fit Water Pump

The Water Pump in Honda Fit vehicle work is to pump coolant taken from the radiator to other parts of the car particularly the engine where it is used to absorb heat resulting from combustion. Today's water pumps are for the most part aluminum and run off of a belt off the crank shaft though electric water pumps have risen in popularity. The pump comprises of a shaft with bearings, a pulley that is belt operated, and an impeller used to circulate the coolant in the system. Signs of failure of the water pump includes leaks from the coolant, squealing sounds from the bearings, and elevated temperatures of the engine. High flow water pumps can be used for high performance engines and it exhibits higher flow rate and lower power requirement in comparison to conventional water pumps. Some other choices are electric water pumps which have such features as for instance individual coolant circulation by the speed of the engine and the post engine shutdown cooling.

Honda Fit Water Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a water pump in the Honda Fit?
A: Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel. Remove the under-vehicle splash shield. Drain the cooling system. If the coolant is relatively new, or is in good condition, save it and re-use it. Remove the right inner fender splash shield. Loosen the water pump pulley mounting bolts. Remove the drivebelt. On 2008 and earlier models, remove the idler pulley mounting bolt and remove the idler pulley. Remove the water pump pulley mounting bolts and remove the pulley. Remove the water pump bolts and separate the pump from the pump housing. If the pump is stuck, gently tap it with a soft faced hammer to break the gasket seal. Caution: When the pump is removed, coolant will spill out. Have a container ready to catch the excess coolant. Clean the water pump and timing chain cover mating surfaces. Install a new O-ring into the water pump groove. Guide the pump into place on the timing chain cover and install the bolts. Tighten the pump-to-housing bolts. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Refill the cooling system. Reconnect the battery. Start the engine and check for any leaks. Re-check the coolant level and add some, if necessary.
