- Q: How do you remove and reinstall the oil pump on Honda Fit?A: Remove the Timing Chain, then take out the oil pick-up tube and screen from the pump housing and the main bearing cap bridge. Next, remove the bolts from the oil pump housing and separate the assembly from the engine. To inspect, take off the screws and remove the oil pump cover, using an impact screwdriver if necessary to avoid stripping the heads. Extract the pressure relief valve plug, spring, and plunger from the pump housing, checking the spring for distortion and the plunger for scoring, replacing parts as needed. Measure the oil pump rotor-to-cover clearance, tooth tip clearance, and rotor-to-body clearance with a feeler gauge and straight edge, comparing your measurements to the specified values; replace the pump if any measurements exceed limits. Install the pump rotors, packing the spaces between them with petroleum jelly to prime the pump. Apply thread-locking compound to the pump cover screws, install the cover, and tighten the screws. Reinstall the oil pressure relief valve and spring assembly, using a new sealing washer on the plug and tightening it securely. For installation, place a new O-ring in the pump housing, apply a thin coat of anaerobic sealant to the pump housing-to-block sealing surface, and attach the pump housing to the engine block, tightening the bolts. Reinstall the oil pick-up tube and screen with a new gasket, tighten the bolts, and install the Oil Pan. Complete the installation in reverse order of removal, adding the specified type and quantity of oil, running the engine, and checking for leaks.
