Honda Fit Oil Pan

The Oil Pan found in the Honda Fit models plays the role of store room for the engine oil to adequately lubricate the engine parts as well as cool them. The Honda Fit's Oil Pan is a wet sump system The oil which is drawn in through a pickup tube is circulated around the engine through the aid of the oil pump before it is deposited back in the Oil Pan. This design also ensures that there is a constant supply of oil as this is very critical for the running of an engine. Traditionally, Oil Pans of Honda Fit were produced with stamped steel but with innovations that have come with time, today's models use cast aluminum for the Honda Fit Oil Pan. The main purpose of this component is retained throughout the evolution of Honda Fit generation, as well as tuning into more sophisticated materials is a sign of higher level of engineering and manufacturing, as well as guaranteeing proper lubrication at different operational conditions.

Honda Fit Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and replace the oil pan on Honda Fit?
A: Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the splash shield from under the engine. Drain the engine oil and replace the oil filter. For 2009 and later models, remove the bolts attaching the air conditioning compressor to the engine and position it aside, supporting the compressor with rope or wire. Remove the driveaxle heat shield. For 2009 and later automatic transaxle equipped vehicles, remove the shift cable cover; for manual transaxle equipped vehicles, remove the torque rod bracket. Remove the dipstick and the bolt securing the dipstick tube to the engine block, using a twisting motion to detach the tube. For 2009 and later models, remove the Crankshaft Position Sensor cover and disconnect the CKP connector. Remove the flywheel or driveplate inspection cover, then remove the two or three oil pan-to-transaxle bolts, followed by the remaining oil pan bolts, noting their locations for installation as they are of different lengths. Tap on the pan with a soft-face hammer to break the gasket seal and detach the oil pan, taking care not to spill any remaining oil. Use a gasket scraper to remove all traces of old gasket and sealant from the engine block and oil pan, ensuring the threaded bolt holes in the block are clean, while being cautious not to gouge the aluminum parts. Clean the oil pan with solvent and dry it thoroughly, then clean the mating surfaces on the engine block and oil pan with brake system cleaner to remove any oil residue. Install a new oil pan gasket at the transaxle end and replace the O-ring on the oil filter side of the pan, also installing the dowel pins. Apply a bead of RTV sealant to the perimeter of the oil pan along the inside of the bolt holes, then install the gasket onto the oil pan, ensuring the sealant extends down onto the U-shaped gasket. Carefully place the oil pan in position and install the bolts finger tight, then tighten the oil pan bolts a little at a time, in sequence, to the specified torque. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal. Fill the crankcase with the recommended oil and install a new oil filter. Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and check for leaks, ensuring all fluid levels are correct.
