Honda Fit Crankshaft Pulley

The Performance Crankshaft Pulley is used in the Honda Fit cars where it plays a vital role of transmitting power from the engine towards other important parts comprising of the power steering pump, A/C compressor and the alternator. Capability of transmitting torque force is another feature associated with the Performance Crankshaft Pulley by directly coupling to the crankshaft and it also helps to damp the engine vibrations which is why it is also referred to as harmonic balance wheel. For many years now, different types of Performance Crankshaft Pulley have been installed in Honda Fit cars and all of them have been developed in order to contribute to the improvement of the car's performance and its effectiveness on the road. These pulleys may differ in terms of the material used, and how they have been designed and manufactured and therefore they may have different levels of weight or different ability to reduce vibrations. The main difference between these types is in their effectiveness to adjust the engine power and in general, increase vehicle sensitivity, which makes the Performance Crankshaft Pulley the essential part of Honda Fit makeover.

Honda Fit Crankshaft Pulley Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you replace the front crankshaft seal and Crankshaft Pulley on Honda Fit?
A: Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the wheel and the splash shield from below the engine compartment. Loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt using a special tool that engages with the recessed hex in the pulley opening to prevent the crankshaft from turning while unscrewing the bolt. If a special tool is unavailable, remove the flywheel/driveplate inspection cover and wedge a screwdriver into the starter ring gear teeth. Slip the pulley off the crankshaft. Carefully pry the seal out of the timing chain cover with a seal removal tool or a screwdriver, taking care not to scratch the seal bore or damage the crankshaft, as damage will cause the new seal to leak. Clean the bore in the seal housing and coat the outer edge of the new seal with engine oil or multi-purpose grease. Using a seal driver or a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than that of the seal, carefully drive the seal into place with a hammer; if a socket is not available, a short section of a large diameter pipe will suffice. After installation, check the seal to ensure the spring did not pop out. Lubricate the lip of the seal with a thin film of engine oil or multi-purpose grease, and lubricate the pulley bolt threads and the surface between the washer and bolt head with clean engine oil before installing the crankshaft pulley and tightening it to the specified torque. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal. Finally, run the engine and check for leaks.
