Honda Fit Cooling Fan Assembly

The Cooling Fan Assembly is used in Honda Fit vehicles for the purpose of controlling the temperature of the engine through the process of cooling, using the help of a radiator. Often this assembly consists a fan blade, a mounting shroud and a motor which is located close to the radiator to cool hot coolant before it is again pumped into the engine. Honda Fit models use mechanical and electric cooling fan assembly. They are mechanically connected to the water pump shaft via a thermal clutch so as to perform at maximum efficiency, though at reduced speeds they are noisy and consume more fuel. On the other hand electric cooling fans are triggered by a 12V motor through the coolant temperature and or the air conditioning system to drive an airflow throughout the radiator and condenser. Design of the shroud is very important to ensure that whether it is rim or blower type of fan it directs the airflow for cooling of the engine.

Honda Fit Cooling Fan Assembly Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the radiator and fan assembly on the Honda Fit?
A: Removal for 2008 and earlier models involves removing the Radiator. Then, lift up and remove the Cooling Fan Assembly and shrouds from the vehicle. For 2009 and later models, remove the Coolant Reservoir. Disconnect the electrical connector for the Cooling Fan Assembly and the air conditioning condenser fan. Remove the upper radiator brackets. Remove the fasteners holding the air conditioning condenser fan shroud to the passenger side of the engine compartment and remove the fan and shroud assembly from the vehicle. Remove the fasteners holding the Cooling Fan Assembly to the driver's side of the engine compartment and remove the fan and shroud assembly from the vehicle. For all models, remove the nuts for each fan blade assembly and remove them from their motor shafts. Inspect the fans for cracks, chips or other damage and replace as necessary. Remove the fan motor-to-fan support retaining bolts, then remove the motor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure the fan shrouds seat properly at the bottom. On 2008 and earlier models, refill the cooling system.
