Q: How should the rocker arms and shafts be removed and installed on Honda CRX?
A: The rocker arms and shafts can be removed only together with each other and it is strictly prohibited to deviate from the torques sequence during the assembly of the rocker shaft. Start by removing the negative terminal of the battery, or the ground cable and then, proceed to take off the valve cover, and align the cylinder number one to the TDC. Loosen the rocker arm bolts gradually in a contrasting sequence to do not harm the valves or rocker assembly, by turning them two turns at a time to avoid rocking the valves. Lift off the rocker arm / shaft assemblies with the intention of leaving the rocker arm bolts installed so as to retain the bearing caps, springs and rocker arms on the shafts. If changing the rocker arms or the shafts, mark them so that you will be able to revert them to their original position. For installation, properly apply oil to the camshaft journals and lobes after which the rocker arm assembly is placed in position and then the bolts are put loosely. Every bolt must be tightened two turns at a time and in the proper sequence just to avoid binding of the valves, the rocker arm bolts must be tightened to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm). Last of all put back the valve cover and join the negative terminal of the battery.
