The camshaft bearing caps are removed along with the rocker arm assembly. To prevent the transaxle end of the camshaft from popping up due to timing belt tension after removal, have an assistant hold it down and reinstall the bearing cap to secure it until reassembly, provided the timing belt remains installed. While the caps are off, inspect them and the camshaft bearing journals. Begin by removing the valve cover and positioning the number one piston at Top Dead Center. Have an assistant hold down the transaxle end of the camshaft, then loosen the camshaft bearing cap bolts gradually until the spring pressure is relieved, followed by lifting the rocker arms and shaft assembly from the cylinder head. For VTEC engines, pull the oil control orifice from the cylinder head. If disassembly and inspection of the rocker arm assembly is desired, remove the retaining bolts and carefully slip off the rocker arms, springs, and bearing caps, ensuring to keep the parts organized for reassembly. Clean and inspect all components for wear and damage, paying special attention to the rocker arm faces and tips, and ensure the oil holes in the shafts are clear. Lubricate all components with assembly lube or engine oil during reassembly, noting the differences between left and right side parts. For VTEC engines, replace the O-ring on the oil control orifice before installing it back into the cylinder head. Coat the cam lobes and journals with lubricant, apply sealant to the cylinder head contact surfaces of the bearing caps, and install the rocker arm assembly. Tighten the camshaft bearing cap bolts in the proper sequence to the specified torque. Complete the installation by reversing the removal steps, adjusting the valve clearance if necessary, and finally running the engine to check for oil leaks and proper operation.

When removing the rocker arm/shaft assemblies, keep the rocker arm bolts in place to maintain the position of the bearing caps, springs, and rocker arms on the shafts.
