Honda Pilot Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers
A: There are a few things you will need to do before attempting to replace the shift cable in a Honda. Start by pulling up the parking brake, blocking the rear wheels and disconnecting the battery cable. Remove the steering column covers and put the shift lever in Neutral. Remove locking nut from cable adjuster, rotate grommet counterclockwise one quarter turn and slip out grommet and cable from bracket. For 2003 through 2005 models lift vehicle, remove shift cable cover with transaxle mounting bolts, slide out shift lever pin and shift lever. On firewall, take off bolt that holds guide bracket of shift cables; pull cables out of brackets then through firewall. For 2006 and later models detach air intake duct, battery & nuts which secure shift cable bracket to transaxle. Remove spring clip/washer & control pin; push down slide end of shift cable from lever at transmission (transaxle) housing and disengage rubber grommet pulling it through firewall. Reinstallation is just reverse of removal process. Make adjustments by moving gearshift lever into neutral position with drive selector set in neutral position until it stops then move back two detents. Align gearshift lever by inserting 15/64-inch dia pin into positioning hole on gearshift brkt base; insert this pin into corresponding hole on gearshift lever after aligning same with respect to above mentioned brkt base; attach end of cable onto mounting bolt for gearshift lever finally check whether or not the system is functioning properly by running engine at idle speed while shifting between all gears except park or reverse depending upon its needs Adjustments must be made before you try to fix any problems with your Acura model according to what has been done for Honda one during particular year period. Place car in reverse position then push shifter forward till it stops and then gently back click once; afterwards insert a .24 inch securing-pin against alignment hole and positioning point of the gearshift lever. Ensure that there is proper operation of the gear position indicator and engine will start only in park or neutral before completing installation process.
