Q: How to remove and reinstall the timing chain cover on Honda Passport?
A: Remove the water pump, and if air conditioning is present, detach the compressor from the mounting bracket and secure it out of the way. Next, take off the compressor mounting bracket and the vibration damper. Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the timing cover, then remove the timing cover mounting bolts and separate the cover from the engine. Clean all oil, dirt, and old gasket material from the sealing surfaces of the cover and engine block, and replace the oil seal. Apply a continuous 3/32-inch bead of anaerobic sealant (Loctite 515 or equivalent) to both mating surfaces of the cover, avoiding the area where the cover meets the Oil Pan lip, and use RTV-type sealant for the cover-to-oil pan area. Additionally, apply anaerobic sealant around the coolant passages. Position the timing cover on the engine block and install the mounting bolts, tightening them to the specified torque in a criss-cross pattern to prevent distortion. The remaining installation steps follow the reverse order of removal.
