If fluid leakage, a spring that appears deformed, or grease coming out from it, consider replacing it. Replace it if the fan easily turns when warm. For belt-driven fans, slacken the belt tension, disconnect the shroud, and withdraw the assembly of the fan itself. On electric fans simply pull off battery connections and unscrew all screws then unplug plug connectors. Apply 12 volts to its power side as you test whether this fan is defective or not functioning at all. Otherwise, replace it with a new one if it doesn't work. For 2.2L models remove battery cable connector, disconnect connector and remove fan with the shroud.
