- Q: How to remove and clean the evaporator unit in the Honda Passport cooling system?A: Disconnect the refrigerant lines and remove the evaporator unit from the vehicle. After discharging the system and recovering the refrigerant, disconnect the refrigerant lines and remove the evaporator unit from the vehicle. Separate case halves on the bench, then remove the evaporator. On the bench, separate the case halves and remove the evaporator. Expansion valve, thermistor sensor probe, and refrigerant lines should be removed. Remove the thermistor sensor probe, expansion valve, and refrigerant lines. Use a fin comb and compressed air to clean the evaporator core. Clean evaporator core with fin comb and compressed air. If replacing the core, add 1.4 ounces of new refrigerant oil. When replacing core add 1.4 ozs of new refrigerant oil into it. For installation, reverse removal process using new O-rings and gaskets. Reverse installation procedure but use new O-rings and gaskets instead of ones fitted previously for reinstallation purposes after carrying out removals in reverse order. Evacuate, charge, and leak test by professional service personnel only!
