Q: How to safely remove and install rear coil springs on Honda Passport?
A: Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle, and place it securely on jackstands before removing the rear wheels. Support the rear axle with a floor jack, then disconnect the upper end of the brake hose from the junction at the cross member by tracing the hose, pulling off the retainer clip with pliers, and unscrewing the fitting from the metal line. Detach the upper end of the breather hose from its clip on the cross member, and disconnect the rear nut and bolt that attach the rear end of the left upper trailing arm to the axle bracket. Disconnect the ends of the stabilizer bar from the lower ends of the links and the Shock Absorbers from the axle. Carefully and slowly lower the axle until all spring tension is removed from the coil springs, then remove the coil springs and the spring insulators. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten all suspension fasteners to the specified torque after lowering the vehicle. It is crucial that the coil springs are installed with the correct end facing up, verifying that each spring has its paint mark below the midpoint; if the paint mark is near the top, the spring is upside down.
