Honda Passport Leaf Spring Parts Questions & Answers
Q: How to remove and install the Leaf Spring on Honda Passport?
A: Replace components with new ones of the same part number or of original equipment quality and design, ensuring that torque specifications are followed for proper reassembly and component retention. Begin by jacking up the vehicle and securely supporting the frame on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels and tires, then place a jack under the rear differential housing. Lower the axle housing until the leaf spring tension is relieved, locking the jack in this position. Disconnect the Shock Absorber from the spring seat, then remove the U-bolt mounting nuts that retain the U-bolts and the shock absorber to the spring seat. Next, take off the spring seat and remove the shackle pin assembly along with the front through-bolt to detach the rear end of the leaf spring assembly. If the bushings in the spring or frame are deteriorated, have an automotive machine shop press out the old bushings and press in new ones. For installation, reverse the removal procedure, lubricating the shackle pins and bushings with lithium base grease, and tighten the shackle pin nuts, through-bolt nut, and U-bolt nuts to the specified torque.
