Q: How to safely remove and install a strut assembly on Honda Odyssey?
A: Before removing the wheel, one has to unscrew the wheel lug nuts ,lift the vehicle and properly jack it using the jackstands. Loosen the nuts on the strut and separate the stabilizer bar link from the strut, also, the brake hose bracket must also be removed from the strut. Unbolt the clamp bracket to remove the ABS speed sensor wiring harness also from the strut. Locate the strut relative to the knuckle to match it up, after which unscrew the strut-to-knuckle nuts and use a hammer and punch to extract the bolts. Very delicately introduce a slight space between the strut and the Steering Knuckle not to stretch the inner CV joint anymore or let the steering knuckle drops on the opposite direction that might harm the brake hose. Hold the strut and spring assembly in one hand and take off the three upper mounting nuts and finally take the assembly out of the fenderwell. Look for indications of strut body leaks, dents, cracks and other sign of wear and possible need of repair or replacement, that concerns the coil spring check for chipped or cracked painting of the spring in addition to the spring seat that should not have cuts or other signs of deterioration. If any problems are detected, go on to dismantle the strut. To assemble it, guide the strut assembly into the fenderwell and place three upper mounting studs through the shock tower holes and tighten nuts in order to hold the from falling. Position the steering knuckle into the strut flange, put the two bolts into the holes and adjust the marks made prior to disassembling; then tighten the nuts to the correct torque and replace the fasteners where necessary. Brake hose bracket, speed sensor wiring harness and the stabilizer bar link needs to be reinstalled. Lastly, secure the wheel and finish putting the lugs nuts over it, and then lower the car, respectively tighten the lugs nuts to the required torque tightening, further tighten the three upper mounting nuts and lastly ensure that you check and adjust the front wheel alignment if it is out of alignment.
