Honda Fit Exhaust Manifold

The Exhaust Manifold in Honda Fit vehicles is of great importance in that it provides a channel for hot exhaust gases to be conveyed from the engine to the exhaust system, hence enabling the right performance of the engine as well as minimization of emissions toxic to the environment. Located at the top of the exhaust system the manifold gathers the exhaust from several cylinders and passes them through the catalytic converter and the muffler. In doing so, it assists in minimising intake reversion, thus significantly reducing the efficiency of the engine in question. From the Honda Fit models of several years, different types of exhaust manifolds have been used mostly produced from cast iron or stainless steel. Headers are also available in important parts as these are specifically made to reduce flow resistance and to improve the performance that comes with high velocity of exhaust gasses. As shown by these headers, efficiency can be increased in an engine and however any additional treatments such as use of insulation or wraps in the exhaust manifold may lower the useful life of the exhaust manifold. In general, the exhaust manifold serves as an important component of the Honda Fit to ensure proper working of the car's engine and safety of passengers.

Honda Fit Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the exhaust manifold on Honda Fit?
A: The following procedure is for 2008 and older engine only; given, 2009 and newer has relocated the exhaust manifold within the Cylinder Head and the catalytic converter is screwed onto the exhaust manifold. The first step that must be followed is to treat the fasteners with a penetrating oil before undoing it. First, loosen the cable on the negative terminal of the battery, secondly remove the engine cover and the exhaust manifold heat shield. Lift the front of the vehicle and place in on jackstands and then you need to remove the splash shield located at the underside of the engine. Then the oxygen sensor electrical connector is removed and the catalytic converter is pulled off of the exhaust manifold. Remove the nut bolts holding the exhaust manifold support bracket and then remove the nuts bolts on the exhaust manifold that holds it to the cylinder head. Remove the old gasket and then, by using a scraper and brake system cleaner soaked in a rag, you need to clean up the gasket mating surfaces on both manifolds namely the exhaust manifold and cylinder head. Place the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head and put new nuts and bolts and tighten in sequence from the center to the outside to the required torque. Replace heat shield and fasten the bolts tightly, then securely fasten the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold with new bolts that should be tightened to the stipulated torque. The rest of the installation is done in the reverse order of the removal of the software. Last but not the least, connect the battery, switch on the engine and look for signs of exhaust emissions.
