The windshield wiper and blade assembly should be inspected periodically for damage, loose components and cracked or worn blade elements. Road film can build up on the wiper blades and affect the inefficiency, so they should be washed regularly with a mild detergent solution. The action of the wiping mechanism can loosen bolts, nuts and fasteners, so they should be checked and tightened, as necessary, at the same time the wiper blades are checked. If the wiper blade elements are cracked, worn or warped, or no longer clean adequately, they should be replaced with new ones. Lift the arm assembly away from the glass for clearance. Press in on the lock tab and push the blade assembly down the wiper arm, out of the hook at the end. Squeeze the blade element tabs tightly and pull the element out of the metal frame. Remove the metal retainers from the element and install them in the new element. Insert the element into the frame and push it until the element tabs lock. Place the metal arm assembly in the hook on the wiper arm and press it into place until the lock tab snaps into place.

To inspect and replace the wiper blade elements, place the wiper switch in the LOW speed position and the ignition switch in the ACC position. When the wiper blades are approximately vertical on the windshield, turn the ignition switch to OFF. Check for cracks, breaks, or tears in the wiper blade elements and replace them immediately if found. Replacement intervals vary, but ozone deterioration typically limits element life to about one year.

Operate the wiper motor at least once to ensure correct positioning. Then, recheck using the highest wiper speed on a wet windshield to confirm that the arms and blades do not contact the windshield trim.

First remove the mounting nut from the wiper pivot, mark the wiper arm and pivot bolt alignment, press down on the wiper arm about 4 inches from the wiper pivot bolt and fold the arm upward until it locks in position. For the rear wiper arm, a 12mm wrench is needed for removal.
