Honda Passport Instrument Panel Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to remove the instrument panel assembly on Honda Passport?
    A: Remove the negative cable from the battery; free the driver's side airbag if available and then free the steering wheel. Remove the handle of the hood release, be Zoe of the instrument cluster, and pull out the center floor console. Next, it involves the removal of the dashboard trim panels and the glove box followed by the removal of the instrument cluster. For the 1996 and later models then the ECM must be removed its electrical connector of the ECM then the retaining bolts. For the 1997 and earlier models, first, you will have to remove the driver and passenger side kick panels, then the bolts of the lower half of the instrument panel will have to be removed. For 1996 and later models it will always be required to remove the bolts that are fastened to hold the center of the instrument panel to the cowl support tube, pull out the defroster grilles and the screws that are located at the upper edge of the instrument panel. Tug the instrument panel backward, disconnect all electrical connections, swing it above the steering column and then, finally, take it off the car. For the 1998 and later models, one has to unscrew the three covers on the top of the dash with the help of a small screwdriver and has to take away the three upper dash mounting nuts. To gain access to this area, one has to pop out the left and right kick panels, disengage the fuse panel from the left end of the dash, and then also, take out the lower left dash mounting bolt. Take off the lower right dash mounting bolt and the two nuts that hold the steering to the underside of the dash so you can have the steering column hanging down . First hand it is necessary to take off the four screws from the center of the dash and the six screws from the glove box cavity. Last, make sure that all electrical connectors are unplug and all wiring harnesses separated; all fasteners have been removed prior to the removal of the instrument panel assembly and the reverse of this for installation.
