Q: How do you install the hood latch and replace the hood release cable on Honda Passport?
A: To put the latch to be in place, one has to draw a line around it in order to guide the installation after pulling the retaining bolts of the radiator support apart. Loosen the bolts and then rotate the hood latch and tighten the bolts and then finalize the fit if the hood is close. Remove the hood release cable by pulling off the cable retainer that is accessible when the back of the latch assembly is faced. To the cable attach stiff wire to the end go back to the firewall and remove all the clips that are retaining it. In the passenger compartment, pull the hood release lever to expose the mounting screws in order to remove and get free the cable from the rear portion of the lever. On the Amigo models produced after the end of 1997, it is necessary to take away the trim cap covering the area of the lock cylinder and release lever screws and, if necessary, replace the key lock cylinder by turning out its mounting screws. Pull the cable and grommet rearwards until the wire becomes exposed and then fit the new cable, make sure this cable has a grommet fitted. Regarding the installation of the cable, before that, pulling from from the engine compartment through the firewall, as for the installation of the grommet it must be pushed from the passenger compartment to be properly engaged. The removal process has been described earlier, the installation process will be the reverse of the process of removing the device.
