Honda Del Sol Flywheel Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove and reinstall a transaxle and flywheel/driveplate on Honda Del Sol?
A: The removal of the transaxle is as follows, lift the vehicle and establish it on jack stands, then unbolt the transaxle. After that, take off the pressure plate and clutch disc in case your vehicle is equipped with a manual transaxle; it may be necessary to inspect or replace the clutch parts and pilot bearing at the same time. Next, remove the bolts that hold the flywheel/driveplate on the crankshaft remove them on the side not in the picture. If the crankshaft turns, dismantle the starter and jam a screwdriver into the teeth of the ring gear, for manual transaxle cars, or drive a punch through one of the holes in the driveplate for automatic transaxle cars, so that it bears on a boss on the front cover. You leave the flywheel/driveplate on the engine block and remove the flywheel/driveplate bolts completely, taking care of the fact that it is pretty heavy; if you are the type that has a hard time lifting the flywheel off the crankshaft due to its size, ensure that you have support for it when removing the last bolt. Scrape off all the grease and oil on the flywheel; on signs of cracking, rivet grooves, area burnt, and scoring marks which can be rubbed out light by emery cloth. Possible damage of ring gear teeth for diesel models should be checked to be cracked or broken and flywheel should be placed on the flat surface for further examination of warpage using the straight edge. Before refitting the flywheel/driveplate check the condition of the mating surfaces of the flywheel/driveplate and crankshaft and replace the rear main oil seal if it is leaking. For mounting, place the flywheel/driveplate over the crankshaft; make sure that dowel pins or staggered bolt holes are aligned and apply thread locking compound to the bolts; tighten in a crossing pattern to the torque specified. The completion of the installation process is, for the most part, done in the opposite of the removal process.
