Honda Del Sol Brake Booster Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How do you perform an operating check and airtightness check on a power brake booster on Honda Del Sol?
A: For operating check, depress the brake pedal several times with the engine switch off until there are no changes in the pedal reserve pressures, and then start the engine, and depress the pedal to feel it sinking a little which shows that the brake equipment is working. For the airtightness check switch the engine on with a running time of not more than 2 minutes before switching off, then press the brake once or more slowly, if the brake pedal drops initially but rises after successive presses the booster is airtight. Press the brake pedal with the engine running and stop the engine; if the pedal reserve travel has not changed after 30 s, the booster is airtight. Removal of the power brake booster: Never disassemble it because of its complicated nature and the specialized tools needed for its reassembly; always replace a faulty unit. If possible start with the Brake Master Cylinder and then you will disconnect the hose that connects the engine to the booster without damaging this part. Insert your fingers under the dash panel to get access to the pushrod clevis pin, unscrew the cotter pin and the clevis pin, and remove the nuts and washers securing the booster to the firewall; it may be a little dark down here. Slide it forward right up to the firewall by pushing it out from the rear of the car. For removal, the reverse sequences are done while making sure to over tight the booster mounting nuts and replace the cotter pin with a new one. If replacing with the power booster unit, check the clearance between master cylinder piston and the pushrod in the vacuum booster, apply vacuum and measure the pushrod distance to check if it complies with Specification, correct it by turning the adjuster backed by star lock nut if required. Last, after having put in place the master cylinder as well as brake hydraulic lines, go for brake system bleeding.
