Next, check the oil pump rotor-to-cover clearance, tooth tip clearance, and rotor-to-body clearance using a feeler gauge and straightedge, ensuring that measurements do not exceed specified limits; replace the pump if they do. Remove the pressure relief valve plug and extract the spring and plunger, inspecting the spring for distortion and the plunger for scoring, replacing parts as needed. Install the pump rotors, packing the spaces between them with petroleum jelly to prime the pump, then apply thread locking compound to the pump cover screws, install the cover, and tighten the screws to the specified torque. Install the oil pressure relief valve and spring assembly, using a new sealing washer on the plug and tightening it securely.
