Honda's CR-V employs front trans-axle Differential which is integrated in the transmission housing and a rear limited-slip differential that engages only under certain conditions. The rear differential gets the engine's torque through a multi-plate clutch, while the older models had a two hydraulic pump based AWD. The models post-2012 have one hydraulic pump that is operated by electronics for quick response in adverse traction situations. Both layouts have non-locking differentials, while the front one is supplied with the transmission oil, the rear one having its own oil change, albeit periodically. The differentials are used in distribution of engine power to the drive wheels in order to facilitate turns and maintaining of tractions across the rough terrains.
