Q: What challenges do home mechanics face when removing the instrument panel on Honda Civic?
A: This procedure is difficult for home mechanics cause most fasteners are hidden, many different angles have to be reached, and multiple electrical connectors must be marked, then disconnected. More so, it is only suitable to be performed by persons with prior experience in home improvement projects. During the removal of the instrument panel special attention should be paid to both the order and location of elements in order to reinstall them accurately. Removing both front seats are not a necessity but it does give more working space and lowers the chances of the front seats being damaged. The operations include the first step of removing the negative battery terminal, then the instrument cluster bezel, a removing of the instrument cluster and ultimately the lower part of the steering column. Following that remove the side kick panels, center vents, dashboard side covers, A pillar trim, steering column, glove box, radio, heater control assembly and center console if any. Disconnect the rear vent duct and pull out the passengers' side airbag connector and the other instruments of the panel. Removably fasten the lower center part of the instrument panel and from both ends Tighten the screw inserts when reinstalling the part. Disconnect the electrical connectors of the interior fuse/relay box then slowly retract the instrument panel towards the rear like this remove all the electrical connectors that you come across. Before moving on, it is necessary to look again for overlooked brackets or interconnections. With support help up the instrument panel, and to take it out through the passenger door. Reinstallation process is done in the order that is reverse of the removal process and is then done by reconnecting the battery.
