Honda Accord Idle Control Valve
The Idle Control Valve in Honda Accord automobile is responsible for controlling idling speed of the engine to allow regulation of the air that passes through the throttle plate. It operates together with the engine control unit- ECU to achieve good idle speeds and the engine does not stall even with changes in load on the vehicle. The valve almost always incorporates an electric actuator, whereby a linear servo motor can be used to control the airflow through the throttle body. In the Accord, there has been a variety of Idle Control Valves used by Honda over the years, although the most common has been the idle air control (IAC) actuator. Although they are built to last and offer great performance these valves can sometime jam due to dirt or dust and cause erratic idle speeds. It is recommended that the Idle Control Valve be cleaned routinely to ensure that it does not fail due to damaged components and therefore requires being replaced.
