    Q:
How do you remove and install the ignition switch/key lock cylinder assembly on Honda Accord? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the dashboard lower cover and the steering column covers. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch/Ignition Lock Cylinder assembly by depressing the release tab and pulling out the connector. Center-punch the shear bolts that attach the ignition switch/Ignition Lock Cylinder assembly clamp to the steering column, then drill a hole in both bolts and unscrew them with a screw extractor to remove the clamp and the ignition switch/Ignition Lock Cylinder assembly. Install the new ignition switch/Ignition Lock Cylinder assembly on the steering column without the ignition key inserted, then install the mounting clamp and new shear bolts without tightening them yet. Insert the ignition key to verify that it turns freely and that the steering wheel lock functions correctly. Once confirmed, tighten the two shear bolts until the hex heads twist off. The installation process is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How to replace the ignition switch and lock cylinder on Honda Fit? Posted by Customer
    A:
Make sure to have the audio security codes handy for reprogramming the audio system. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the steering column covers and disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch. Remove the mounting fasteners and pull the switch from the lock cylinder housing, ensuring the hub of the new switch is aligned with the blade on the ignition Lock Cylinder during installation. The remainder of installation follows the reverse order of removal. Reconnect the battery and perform the necessary re-learn procedures. Remove the steering column from the car, then center punch and drill out the break off bolts securing the housing to the steering column shaft, discarding them. Remove the remaining sections of the break off bolts from the steering column housing and take out the lock housing. Install the replacement housing loosely with the new break off bolts provided, insert the key, and turn it several times to ensure it works freely, which will also help align the steering wheel lock correctly. Tighten the break off bolts until they shear off completely, and complete the installation in reverse order. Finally, reconnect the battery and perform the necessary re-learn procedures.

    Q:
How do you disconnect and replace the ignition switch and key lock cylinder on Honda Odyssey? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait at least three minutes before proceeding. Remove the knee bolster and the upper and lower steering column covers. Detach the driver's side fuse and relay box. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector from the fuse and relay box. Remove the ignition switch mounting screws and take out the switch. Installation is the reverse of removal. When finished, reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal and verify that the ignition switch operates correctly in the LOCK, ACC, ON, and START positions. The lock cylinder cannot be replaced by itself; the entire housing must be replaced. Remove the shear-head bolts, take off the bracket, and detach the ignition Lock Cylinder housing from the steering column. Shear-head bolt removal can be accomplished by drilling a hole in the center of each bolt and unscrewing them with a screw extractor. Installation is the reverse of removal, tightening the ignition Lock Cylinder housing bolts until the hex heads break off. Reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal and verify that the ignition Lock Cylinder works correctly.
