    Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. On 2004 and earlier models, unlatch the clamp for the transmission cooler hose. Before removing the starter, pry open the clamp for the transmission cooler hose with a small screwdriver and move the ATF cooler hose out of the way. On 2005 and later models, remove the intake air duct. Also remove the wiring harness clamp from the starter. On 2008 and later models with VCM, remove the bracket from the starter and the dipstick.
