Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. On 2004 and earlier models, unlatch the clamp for the transmission cooler hose. Before removing the starter, pry this clamp open with a small screwdriver and pull the ATF cooler hose out of the way - is the starter lower mounting bolt and set it aside. On 2005 and later models, remove the intake air duct. Also remove the wiring harness clamp from the starter. On 2008 and later models with VCM, remove the bracket from the starter and the dipstick. Clearly label, then disconnect the wires from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid. Also disconnect any clips that attach the wiring to the starter assembly. Remove the starter mounting bolts and detach the starter. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the starter mounting bolts to the torque, then reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.

The starter solenoid wiring and connections should be inspected to ensure they are intact and properly connected.
