Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Block the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Remove the wheel. Support the rear axle beam with a floor jack placed under the coil spring pocket. Remove the access panel in the luggage compartment and unscrew the shock absorber upper mounting nut. Hold the shock absorber piston rod with an Allen wrench while loosening the upper mounting nut. Remove the washer and mounting cushion. Unscrew the shock absorber lower mounting bolt and nut and remove the shock absorber. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure the mounting cushions and upper washer are properly installed on the piston rod. Remove the plastic retainers and take off the steering column U-joint cover. Then tighten the NEW upper mounting nut to the torque. Raise the floor jack to simulate normal ride height, then tighten the NEW lower mounting bolt to the torque. Install the wheel and lug nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque.

Remove the mounting base from the strut, install the spring compressor on the spring and compress it sufficiently to relieve all pressure from the upper spring seat, remove the piston rod nut, remove the strut bearing, lift the spring seat and upper insulator from the piston rod, check the rubber spring seat for cracking and hardness, carefully lift the compressed spring from the assembly and set it in a safe place, slide the dust boot off the piston rod, check the lower insulator for wear, cracking and hardness and replace it if necessary.
