To remove and install the harmonic balancer, first note the radio security code and station presets, then disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise and safely support the vehicle, followed by the removal of the lower engine splash shield and the engine accessory drive belts, marking the direction of the belt's rotation if it is to be reinstalled; replace any belt that shows signs of wear or contamination. Set the engine at Top Dead Center (TDC) for the No. 1 piston on the compression stroke, ensuring the harmonic balancer white mark aligns with the mark on the lower timing cover, and avoid disturbing the engine in this position. Use appropriate Honda tools to hold the harmonic balancer and remove the harmonic balancer bolt by turning it counterclockwise, then take off the harmonic balancer. For installation, place the harmonic balancer back on and tighten the bolt to 181 ft. lbs. (245 Nm), adjust the accessory drive belts, and verify that all previously removed engine components are correctly reinstalled. Finally, reinstall the splash shield, lower the vehicle, reconnect the negative battery cable, and enter the radio security code.
