    A:
Relieve the system fuel pressure, then remove the fuel filler neck cap to relieve any pressure inside the fuel tank. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, remove the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor from the fuel tank and place it on a clean workbench. Disconnect the electrical connector for the Fuel Level Sensor, remove the Fuel Level Sensor from the fuel pump assembly, disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector and ground wire, remove the fuel pump retainer from the fuel pump housing, remove the rubber insulator from the fuel pump, remove the fuel strainer from the inlet end of the fuel pump, remove the fuel pump from the pump housing. If you want to replace the fuel filter, wash the fuel inlet strainer thoroughly in clean solvent, dry it off and inspect it for tears, cracks, clogging any other damage. If the strainer is damaged or worn, replace it, be sure to use a new retaining washer when installing the strainer. Before installing the fuel pump access cover, be sure to connect the cable to the negative battery terminal, start the engine and check for fuel leaks at the pump fuel line connection. If there are no leaks, install the access cover and the trunk carpet.
