    Q:
How are the camshafts and rocker arm assembly removed and reassembled on the cylinder head on Four cylinder engine on Honda Accord? Posted by Customer
    A:
The camshaft holders, camshafts, and rocker arm assembly are fixed directly to the head by a number of bolts only and in some engines they can be unbolted as a complete unit on the bench. Starting with the removal of the negative terminal of the battery and, placing the number one piston at TDC. Take off the valve cover and the timing chain after it then slacken all the rocker arm adjusting bolts. The camshaft holder bolts are then to be removed using the correct sequence and then the upper timing chain guide. Lift off the camshaft holders and camshafts, and remove the rocker arm assembly Fig 2, but make sure that each bolt marketed will fit back in the camshaft holder for reassembly. When the intake camshaft sprocket has been replaced it should be secured by sealing the advance and retard holes with the help of tape and the lock should be released with the help of compressed air. For inspection, remove the rocker arm assembly by taking out all the retaining bolts and lay down the various subassemblies in a order where they can be reassembled in the right sequence. Clean the assembly and look for signs of wear and tear and damage them on rocker arm faces, shaft and bearing surfaces. If checking camshaft endplay: install rocker arm assembly and camshafts, then mount a dial indicator and witness the reading as you try to move the camshaft. For camshaft runout, it is necessary to place the camshaft in to V-blocks and turn it it in order to measure runout. Camshaft bearing journals and caps needs to be checked for their wear and tear, the cam lobes for scoring and, for uneven wear, the required parts should be replaced. Some of them involve lubrication and cleanliness so that they don't experience it again in future. For installation, coated all parts, rearranged the rocker arms, and aligned the correct configuration of the camshaft sprocket timing marks. Torque the camshaft holder bolts in the correct order and finish the procedure in the reverse process of what was done earlier, followed by the checking of all valve clearance, and leaks, etc., after the running of the engine.
