After securing the vehicle on jackstands, remove the wheel and brake caliper. Remove the dust cap, lock ring, and outer adjusting nut, then remove the disc assembly from the spindle. Pry out the seal from the rear of the hub, followed by the inner wheel bearing. Clean all parts with solvent, inspect them for damage, and replace any defective bearing races. Pack the bearings with high-temperature grease, apply grease to the spindle, and place grease inboard of each bearing race inside the hub. Install the inner bearing, seal, and adjuster nut. Tighten the adjuster nut while rotating the disc/hub assembly, back it off one full turn, and hand-tighten it. Install the locking ring and recheck freeplay. Finally, reinstall the remaining components in reverse order.

Models equipped with either a Dana or Saginaw rear axle can be identified by the shape of the rear cover and the number of bolts used for attachment. Dana differentials feature an odd-shaped rear cover with a 12-bolt pattern, characterized by an angular appearance due to the longer ring-gear side. In contrast, Saginaw differentials have a uniformly oval-shaped cover with an 11-bolt pattern.
