For example, when a car's engine is overhauled, it is recommended to replace the main and connecting rod bearings with new ones but the worn bearings should be kept as evidences of the engine status. Other driving behaviour are also instrumental in bearing life; for example constant over revving at small speeds will cause high load factors that can expel oil; starting and stopping frequently will cause corrosion since there is not enough heat to burn off moisture and gases thus forming acids in the oil. Furthermore, wrong bearing installation leads to oil starvation resulting from interference fits, or dirt trapped behind the inserts and this causes the failures.
