Q: How to check and replace the Cooling Fan Assembly on Honda Ridgeline?
A: On 2007 Acura MDX models, remove the Radiator before removing the cooling fan assembly. If the engine is getting hot (or overheating) and neither of the cooling fans are coming on, check their fuses first. If the fuses are okay unplug the electrical connector for each fan motor and apply battery voltage to each one. Use a fused jumper wire on terminal A and another jumper wire going to the ground on terminal B. If either fan motor doesn't come on, replace it. If the fan motors are okay, check the fan relay(s). Locate the fan relays in the engine compartment fuse/relay box and in the smaller additional relay box in front of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Test the relays. If the fuses, motors and relays are functional, check all wiring and connections to the fan motors. if no obvious problems are found have the cooling fan system and circuits diagnosed by a dealer service department or repair shop with the proper diagnostic equipment. Remove the battery and battery tray. Remove the plastic cover over the radiator. Disconnect all electrical connectors and separate the wire harnesses on the fan shroud assemblies except for the harnesses attached directly to the fan motors. Remove the ground cable attached to the radiator support, if equipped. Drain the cooling system. if the coolant is relatively new or in good condition, save it and reuse it. Detach the upper radiator hose from the radiator and position it aside for access. Remove the hood latch. Remove the lower engine splash shield. Remove the bracket for the hood latch. Remove the radiator (driver's side) fan assembly mounting bolts pull the assembly up slightly (to release the bottom mounts) and then remove it through the opening created by the removed battery and tray. Remove the condenser fan assembly (passenger side) upper and lower mounting bolts, then remove the fan assembly through the opening mentioned in the previous sentence. To detach the fan from the motor, remove the motor shaft nut. To detach the fan motor from the shroud, remove the mounting screws. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure that the hood latch is properly aligned when installed. Be sure to fill the cooling system with the proper mixture of antifreeze and water and to check for leaks after the vehicle has reached normal operating temperature.
