Honda Pilot Steering Knuckle

The Steering Knuckle in Honda Pilot vehicles is an imperative attachment which acts between the suspension and steering assembly and the front wheels. It affords reception of the control arms, tie-rod ends and the spindle or the hub and it comprises of two parts which can move up and down in accord with roads and another part that moves horizontally in accord with the operation of the steering-wheel. Depending on the drive type of the Honda Pilot, the arrangement of the Steering Knuckles may also be slightly different where the front-wheel, all-wheel and four-wheel models may differ from that of the rear-wheel ones. The greatest variation in the design is at the point where the spindle interconnects with the hub: some models can actually be connected to the drive axle directly. Thus, in general, the Steering Knuckle is aimed at providing stability of wheel rotation and control, and though it eventually wears out, it is not replaced until it is damaged in a collision with an obstacle or significantly worn.     Q: How to remove and install a front steering knuckle and strut assembly on Honda Pilot?
    A: Loosen axle/hub nut and wheel lug nuts. Raise vehicle and remove wheel. Remove brake disc, ABS sensor, and brake hose. Loosen strut-to-knuckle fasteners and separate tie-rod end. Remove ball joint lock pin and separate from knuckle. Remove strut-to-knuckle fasteners and axle/hub nut. Push axle from hub and separate knuckle from strut. INSTALLATION: Position knuckle and hub assembly, insert axle into hub. Connect ball joint to knuckle and attach tie-rod. Tighten strut fasteners, ball joint nut, and tie-rod nut. Install new cotter and lock pins. Install brake disc and caliper. Install new axle/hub nut and wheel. Lower vehicle and tighten lug nuts. Tighten axle/hub nut. Check and adjust front wheel alignment if needed.
