Honda Del Sol Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and install the rear brake cable on Honda Del Sol?
A: Block the front wheels and loosen the rear wheel lug nuts before raising the rear of the vehicle and securely supporting it on jackstands. For vehicles with rear drum brakes, remove the brake drum(s). Loosen the cable adjusting nut and remove the cable clamp from the cable housing, then unhook the cable from the equalizer. On models with rear drum brakes, remove the brake shoes and disconnect the cable end from the lever on the trailing brake shoe. Depress the tangs on the cable housing retainer and pass the cable through the backing plate using an offset 12 mm box end wrench to compress the tangs simultaneously. For models with rear disc brakes, disconnect the cable end from the actuator lever on the caliper by removing the clip and clevis, then free the cable housing from the support bracket by removing the spring clip. Unbolt the cable housing clamps from the underbody, noting the cable routing, and remove the cable from the vehicle, which may require removing the exhaust pipe heat shield bolts at the rear. If both cables need to be removed, repeat the steps for the remaining cable. Installation follows the reverse of the removal process, ensuring to adjust the cables afterward.
