Honda Del Sol Oil Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove and install the Oil Pump on Honda Del Sol?
A: To remove the Timing Belt, it is necessary to take out the Oil Pan, together with the oil pick-up tube and screen which is located in the pump housing and the main bearing cap bridge, but before doing this, it is necessary to remove the oil pick-up tube bolts from the oil pump and the main bearing cap bridge. After that, remove the bolts that fasten the assembly to the engine and, thus, remove the complete assembly of the oil pump; further, disassemble the oil pump by unscrewing the screws from it; it is possible to use an impact screwdriver for using the pump cover screws not to damage them. For inspection, the clearances on the oil pump rotors can be gauged using a feeler gauge and a straight edge, with the help of limits set for the same; and the pump can then be replaced if the clearances do not lie within the stipulated range. Unscrew the pressure relief valve plug to take out the spring and plunger and see if it is distorted and scored as well as worn out; change the components, if necessary. During installation, fill the inter-teeth clearance of the rotors with petroleum jellies for purpose of pumping, apply a thread-locking compound on the pump cover screws and engaging the cover followed by tightening the screws to the recommended torque. Replace the pressure relief valve and spring and place a new washer on the plug, and then tighten it in position. Install a new O-ring and a thin layer of RTV sealant on the pump housing-block sealing surface and fasten the pump housing to the engine block by using bolts tightened to the requested torque. Subsequently, replace the oil pick-up tube and screen having new gasket bolts that must be fastened with the corresponding torque. Lastly, perform the removal process in the reverse and add the specified type and quantity of oil and coolant, start the engine and check for leaks.
