Honda Civic Cooling Fan Assembly Parts Questions & Answers
Q: What procedures apply to the removal and installation of the fan on Honda Civic?
A: All air-conditioned models have two complete fan circuits, one for the condenser fan and one for the radiator fan, and the following procedures apply to both. Begin by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. For 2.4L Civic models, remove the PCM from the mounting bracket without disconnecting the electrical connectors and secure the assembly out of the way. On 2.4L models, remove the intake air duct and air filter housing. For CR-V models, remove the grille pushpins and carefully disengage the lower clips, then separate the grille from the bumper cover if necessary. Once the grille is removed, take out the duct pushpins and duct assembly from the bumper cover. On Civic models, remove the radiator support cover push pins and take off the cover. Remove the wiring harness clamp and position the harness off to the side, disconnecting the radiator fan electrical connector, then the harness retainer, and remove the fan shroud condenser fan similarly. For Civic models, remove the battery and the battery tray, positioning the wiring harness off to the side. On CR-V models, disconnect the electrical connector to the horn, then remove the horn and bracket as an assembly, followed by removing the hood latch. Remove the radiator mount upper bracket bolts and brackets. For Civic models, remove the Coolant Reservoir, then take out the radiator crossmember. Disconnect the fan wiring connectors located near the top of the cooling fan shroud. Unbolt the engine cooling fan(s) from the radiator at the top. Carefully lift the condenser fan out first, then lift the radiator fan up slightly, sliding it to the right and pulling it out of the engine compartment. To detach the fan from the motor, remove the motor shaft nut, then pull the fan blade from the motor shaft. To detach the fan motor from the shroud, remove the mounting screws. Installation is the reverse of removal. Refill the cooling system and reconnect the battery.
