- Q: How do you remove and install the A/C Condenser on Honda Civic?A: When replacing entire components, additional refrigerant oil should be added equal to the amount that is removed with the component being replaced. Be sure to read the can before adding any oil to the system to ensure compatibility with the R-134a system. First, have the refrigerant discharged and recovered by an air conditioning technician. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the front bumper, then take out the condenser brackets and, for CR-V models, the upper radiator mount brackets. Disconnect the condenser line and discharge line, removing the discharge line-to-condenser mounting bolt, and cap the fittings on the condenser and lines to prevent dirt or moisture entry. Lift the condenser from its lower mounts for removal. For installation, reverse the removal steps, assembling all connections with new O-rings lightly lubricated with R-134a refrigerant oil. If a new condenser was installed, add the proper amount of fresh refrigerant oil: 1 2/3-ounce (50 ml) for 2-door Civic and all CR-V models (including receiver-drier) and 1 213-ounce (50 ml) for 4-door Civic models (including receiver-drier). Finally, reconnect the battery and have the system evacuated, charged, and leak tested by an air conditioning technician.
