The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system reduces emissions by circulating fresh air from the air cleaner through the crankcase, mixing with blow-by gases, and rerouting through a PCV valve to the intake manifold. The system includes a PCV valve, a fresh air inlet, and connecting hoses. The valve restricts flow to maintain idle quality when intake manifold vacuum is high. If abnormal conditions occur, the system allows excess blow-by gases to flow back into the air cleaner for normal combustion.

To replace the PCV valve, it should be pulled from the end of the hose, noting its installed position. The new valve should be compared with the old one to ensure they're the same, and then pushed into the end of the hose until it's seated.
