    Engine vacuum controls the position of the EGR valve which is then transferred to the ECU via a sensor. The control solenoid valve, air chamber, and EGR valve are in the control box on the firewall. Vacuum lines should be inspected, electrical connections tested and hand vacuum pump used to test the EGR valve. If that does not work, examine the wiring, ECU, and look for vacuum leaks. Check one of the connector terminals for 5 volts to test the EGR valve lift sensor.
