Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. For manual window models, remove the window crank using a hooked tool to take out the retainer clip; a special tool is available but not essential. With the clip removed, pull off the handle. For power window models, pry out the armrest switch control plate with a small screwdriver and disconnect the electrical connections. On 1997 and earlier models, detach the armrest pull handle retaining screws and remove the inside door handle trim bezel. For 1998 and later models, the inside door handle and trim bezel are a one-piece assembly; pry out the bezel and disconnect the door handle lever arm from the actuating rod, then pry off the pull handle cover. Remove the remaining door panel retaining screws, with 1997 and earlier models requiring the removal of screws from the edge of the door panel and plastic trim covers, while 1998 and later models need screws removed from the pull handle and along the edge of the trim panel. Use a wide putty knife, thin screwdriver, or special trim panel removal tool to disengage the door panel retaining clips. Once all clips and screws are disengaged, detach the trim panel, disconnect electrical connectors from the door-mounted speaker and any power accessories, and gently pull the trim panel up and out. For access to the inner door, remove the door panel support bracket screws and carefully peel back the watershield, ensuring not to tear it. To install the trim panel, press the watershield back into place and add more sealant if necessary. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.
