    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall the Manual transmission on Honda Passport? Posted by Customer
    A:
Relieving the transmission begins with the first step of using a wrench to unscrew the negative cable off the battery. After that, you have to take out the shift lever from the transmission and in the case of 4WD-from the transfer case. Lift the car on jackstands and remove the transmission drain plug, also the transfer case in 4-wheel drive vehicles needs to be drained. Unplug the speedometer cable or vehicle speed sensor if fitted and disconnect the back-up light switch connector, remove all wire harness clips and brackets from the transmission/transfer case and secure them to one side. Lift the rear and front driveshafts for 4WD models; gather two bucket loads of queer; use the queer to hold the end of the transmission/transfer case to avoid the spillage of oil. Disconnect the exhaust pipe(s) from the exhaust manifold(s) and any other exhaust related parts that will hinder the transmission extraction process. Replace starter motor, freely undo the clutch cable on 2.3L Amigo models, or undo the clutch release cylinder on the rest of the range. The engine should be supported with either an engine hoist or jack under the oil pan so that it does not shift around when the transmission/transfer case is removed from it. Underneath the transmission/transfer case provide support with a jack; preferably a special one, and safety chains. Rearrange the nuts and take off the skid plate and the bolts of the transfer case skid plate, separate the transmission mount from the crossmember. Unbolt the crossmember, lift the transmission/transfer case and remove the crossmember as shown below. By unscrewing the nuts and bolts that connect the transmission mount to the transmission and also the ones connecting the transmission bellhousing to the engine, it is advisable to indicate the size and type of each bolt and nut, and their location. Be sure all wires and hoses are disconnected and then translate the transmission/transfer case as well as jack towards the rear of the automobile while maintaining the input shaft level and perpendicular to the clutch housing. After this, lower the transmission/transfer case and then take it out from under the car, do not press the clutch while doing this. Remove clutch housing from the engine and examine the clutch components and in case of their deterioration put new clutch components. For installation if removed, the clutch components is the first to be installed. Position the clutch housing above the jack with the transmission/transfer case and carefully push the fluctuating assembly forward in order that the input shaft engages the clutch plate hub without applying to much pressure. Secure the transmission-to-engine fasteners, and back them up by referring to your earlier note if you have to replace some of them; tighten the fasteners to the respective torque settings. Reinstall cross member and Install trans/ transfer case support and tighten all nut and bolts. Lower and block the vehicle, then uninstall the jacks supporting the transmission/transfer case and the engine, and then reinsert such items as earlier mentioned. Give it a final through over to see if all wires, hoses, and particularly, the speedometer cable or vehicle speed sensor if they are properly connected and then ensure that the transmission and the transfer case are up to the correct level of lubricant before finally Lower the vehicle. In the car, fit the shift lever and where necessary the shift lever for the transfer case for the 4WD versions. If the vehicle has one, repositions the clutch cable, connect the negative terminal of the battery and take the vehicle for a road test to confirm correct working of the odd and to check for a sign of leakage.
