Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Remove the center cluster trim panels. Remove the mounting screws located on the front of the A/C Switch. Pull out the A/C Switch far enough to disconnect all electrical connectors and cables from the A/C Switch. Pry back the clips on the control cable mountings and remove the cables from the A/C Switch. Disconnect the electrical connectors. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Run the engine and check for proper functioning of the heater (and air conditioning, if equipped). With the cables attached at the control end and the A/C Switch installed in the dash, adjust the cables at their ends. There are three cables. The leftmost cable attaches to the temperature control lever on the left side of the heater core housing. The center cable is the air selector control which connects to linkage at the bottom-right side of the heater core housing, and the right-hand cable (air source or "mode" control) connects to the blower housing. To adjust the air source control cable, move the dash control to the left (RECIRC position), set the damper lever to its recirculation position (toward the firewall), install the cable and clamp it in place. To adjust the temperature control cable, set the dash control to COLD, move the lever on the heater box to the Cold position (up), install the cable and lock the clamp while applying slight pressure on the outer cable. To adjust the air selector control cable, set the dash control to the right (DEFROST), move the lever on the lower right of the heater box to the defrost position (far right), hook the cable end on and tighten the clamp. Check the air conditioning switch continuity. Test the blower speed control switch for continuity. If the switch fails any of these tests, replace it.
