Remove the air filter housing. Unplug the back-up light switch electrical connector, located near the shift levers on the transaxle. Unscrew the back-up light switch. If equipped, discard the old washer. Using a new washer, install the new switch. On models without a washer, apply RTV seal-ant or Teflon tape to the threads of the new switch to prevent leakage. Plug in the connector.

Remove the air filter housing, the battery, and battery base to access the back-up lamp switch located on top of the transaxle. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch. The back-up light switch should only have continuity in Reverse and should be open (no continuity) in neutral and all other gears between the two terminals of the switch. If continuity is not as specified, replace the switch. Unscrew the switch and remove it from the transaxle, recovering the sealing washer. Using a new sealing washer, install the switch and tighten it securely. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal, adding transaxle fluid as necessary.

If both the fuse and bulbs are functional, locate the back-up light switch on top of the transaxle, trace the leads back to the electrical connector, unplug it, and connect an ohmmeter or continuity tester across the terminals of the back-up light switch.
