Insert the inner race into the cage, ensuring matchmarks are on the same side, and press the balls into the cage windows. Protect the axleshaft splines with tape, then slide the boot and clamp onto the axleshaft before installing the inner race and cage assembly with the bulge facing the end.

Inspect the bearing for excessive wear; if it's worn, replace it and discard the old seal.

With the axle mounting brackets detached from the frame and the axle assembly detached from the brackets, disengage the splined inner end of the left driveaxle from the axle assembly, carefully lower the axle assembly slightly, disengage it from the inner end of the right driveaxle assembly, and remove the axle.

Unscrew the pressed steel cover from the differential housing to drain the lubricant, then remove the lock bolt from the differential pinion shaft and withdraw the pinion shaft. Push the outer end of the axleshaft in to remove the C-lock, then carefully withdraw the axleshaft, avoiding damage to the oil seal. Reinstallation follows the reverse order, with a new lock bolt and cover gasket, and refill the differential with the correct lubricant.
