Damage is avoided by briefly warming the engine before starting when working with oxygen sensors. Remove the key from the ignition and raise the vehicle using jack stands. Avoid handling sensors with care while staying away from an electrical connector and louvered end. Don't use cleaning solvents or drop them. Proper positioning of a silicone boot is ensured. There are two sensors; the first one is located upstream above the catalytic converter whereas the second sensor is found downstream below it. Disconnect this electrical connector, use an O2 sensor socket for removal, and apply an anti-seize compound to threads if reusing. Install in reverse order, making sure that sensors are securely tightened.
